Low-income, at-risk urban youth in Colorado do not have the same opportunities to experience the outdoors and learn about nature. Only 60% of them will even graduate high school. Our youth deserve to be inspired by nature, have the tools they need to succeed in life, and follow their chosen career paths. We need our youth to become the future environmental leaders of tomorrow to protect the planet and its people.

Environmental Learning for Kids (ELK) mission is to cultivate a passion in science, leadership, and service in a diverse community of learners. ELK goals: 1) Expand educational, outdoor experiences, natural resource and science learning opportunities for culturally diverse youth and their families; 2) Motivate students to graduate high school and college; 3) Cultivate future community leaders by developing self-confidence, leadership, and life skills; 4) Promote life-long stewardship.
Change the lives of culturally diverse, at-risk Colorado youth through science and outdoor education. Our programs incorporate mentoring, leadership, community service and career development. 98% of ELK youth graduate high school!

Long-Term Impact

This project changes the lives of not only 80 youth, but also the community in which they live. Our communities are starving for homegrown leaders who are passionate and care about the people around them. Our youth graduate from high school, go to college, and become leaders in their careers and their community. Our program is a unique and necessary part of changing our youths’ lives around.
