Many pets are given up because their owners are no longer able to care for them, financially or behaviorally. We rescue birds that are surrendered to us, that shelters turn away, that are found in empty apartments and foreclosed homes and even dumpsters, or that were released into the wild completely unable to survive on their own. Most animal shelters are designed to house cats and dogs, and are unable to accept or care for the needs of domesticated birds like parrots, thus needing to surrender

To provide protection for those who, by no fault or choice of their own, cannot help themselves, and depend on humans for their care. To ensure the highest quality of life for our companion birds. To educate the bird owning public on the most current diet, health and general care information.
Mickaboo Companion Bird Rescue, based in Northern California, helps birds commonly kept as indoor pets by rescuing, rehabilitating (physically and behaviorally), and re-homing them. Most of these rescued birds come to us injured, abused, or neglected, or are very ill. We usually care for 300-400 birds at a time, incurring veterinary bills of $20,000-$40,000 monthly. This project helps pay for those medical expenses.

Long-Term Impact

Our goal is to medically rehabilitate each of our 400+ birds sufficiently so that they may be placed in qualified permanent homes. Over time, we believe our education and outreach efforts will reduce the number of birds surrendered to us for various reasons.
