Challenge

With growing economic development in and around Raleigh and the Triangle, preparing tomorrow's workforce is essential to this community's future. Area educators recognize the importance of JA's financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship programs and want JA programs for their students. Demand for high school JA programs is on the rise - volunteers are stepping up to deliver JA programs - funding will enable students to connect classroom learning with real life.

Solution

To inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy.
Preparing tomorrow's economic participants is essential to every community's future. JA places trained volunteers from the Raleigh business community directly in an area high school classroom to provide students with important information on business, economics, and entrepreneurship helping them be better prepared employees, employers and consumers. The knowledge students acquire will enable them to manage their finances, develop in-demand job skills and understand entrepreneurship.

Long-Term Impact

It's been proven that students who receive JA six times during their school career are 90% more likely to graduate from high school. The goal of our project will be for youth to develop attitudes aligned with high school graduation and 21st century skills that prepare them for success. In addition, JA programs improve student academic performance and achievement leading to increased graduation rates.
