Challenge

There is a tremendous unmet need in Boston for out-of-school time programs. Urban youth - and teens, in particular - have the least access to quality programs outside of school. YES is one of the few organizations in the city that offers year-round programming with services available after school, during the evenings, and on the weekends.

Solution

Since 1968, YES has been living its mission of inspiring and challenging inner-city Boston youth with physical and mental activities that foster life-long respect for self, others, and the environment. YES changes lives by offering youth enriching out-of-school opportunities, nurturing them so they can achieve their full potential, and inspiring them to be tomorrow's leaders. More than 1,500 Boston children ages 7-18 participate in YES's continuum of empowerment, outdoor, and leadership programs each year. YES was formed by the late Richard Williams who was inspired to bring city kids to the mountains to ski and experience a whole different world along with pride of achievement. Today, YES offers a year-round continuum of sports-based youth development, leadership, and enrichment programs that help youth lay the foundation to achieve greater success in school, work, and life. Our programs are attracting record numbers of youth and are delivering measurable results. For the past three years, 100% of high school seniors in the Career Exploration and Junior Volunteer programs have graduated high school and enrolled in college.
Since 1968, YES has been living its mission of inspiring and challenging inner-city Boston youth. More than 1,600 Boston children ages 7-18 annually participate in YES's continuum of empowerment, outdoor, and leadership programs which help youth lay the foundation to achieve greater success in school, work, and life. The YES Academy delivers high-impact leadership programs to Boston middle and high school students. 192 teens participated in 2014. Help us reach our goal of 200+ in 2015!

Long-Term Impact

YES Academy targets Boston's underserved youth and provide year-round opportunities for them to learn the critical skills needed to be successful in school, work, and life. YES helps middle and high school students be better prepared to be young leaders in their community, develop self-confidence, gain 21st century job readiness skills, and prepare for college.
