Children of Filipino soldiers who gave up their lives in defense of the Philippines and its people are being helped by full scholarships from the HERO (Help, Educate, and Rear Orphans) Foundation.
HERO Foundation is marking its 30th year in 2018 by giving full scholarships to children of soldiers who died in the line of duty. Organized by the late President Corazon C. Aquino in 1988 the foundation previously gave stipends to help their scholars with the cost of books, uniform, school supplies, and at times supplementing their tuition fees.
This year the HERO Foundation scholars are being given full college scholarship for tuition, board and lodging. Allowances for books, school supplies, food, uniform as well as transportation are also provided.
The foundation welcomed their first batch of scholar beneficiaries in July.
Of its 2,698 scholars, HERO Foundation has already produced 1,129 college graduates.
One of the three scholars who graduated with the aid of HERO Foundation Inc. is Donna Rubiato.
After CPL Nathaniel Rubiato died in an operation at Brgy Sibugay, Zamboanga City, he left behind his family including his only daughter, Donna.
Donna Rubiato graduated from Trinity University of Asia with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration Major in Financial Management. According to her, “Hero Foundation supported me in my everyday allowance and materials that I needed for school. Because of this foundation another child never loses hope in pursuing one of her father’s dream even though he is already gone.” Rubiato was a HERO scholar from 2013-2017.
HERO Foundation is seen by these scholars as a hero for their future. HERO Foundation continues to seek out more people to help them continue providing services.
